Recording of the Brighton & Hove LGBT Community Safety Inaugural Meeting
On Wednesday evening about 20 of us braved the downpours to attend a meeting above Charles Street Bar chaired by Chris Cooke. It was an open forum and anyone could attend. It was an inaugural meeting to set up the ‘Brighton & Hove LGBT Community Safety Forum’.
The aim of the forum is to ensure effective accountability between the LGBT communities of Brighton & Hove, Sussex Police and Brighton & Hove City Council. Specifically the forum will identify and address LGBT community safety needs with respect to:
Experience of Hate Crime
Fear of crime and hate crime
Fear and experiences of other forms of discrimination.
For those that were unable to come , Zhoosh took along their podcasting equipment to record the discussions that took place, so that you as an LGBT resident can be informed of what was said by whom and find out more about what this is all about. Even if you have not got time to listen to it all, please hear the first 5 minutes where Chris Cooke explains why this forum is being set up and what it is hoped will be achieved.
However much you do manage to listen too (the meeting was an hour long), it would be great to get your comments and feedback on what was discussed, what your views are and your suggestions for the initial committee members Billie Lewis, Stephen Richards, myself (Susan Luxford) , Adam Scott and Brighton & Hove Green Councillors for Queens Park, Cllrs Stephanie Powell and Geoffrey Bowden.
