Greymatter’s NEW album released 1 October
The wait for fans is finally over as UK based all girl band Greymatter announce October 1 as the official release date for their third album ‘Small Steps in a Big Life.’
If you haven’t heard of Greymatter before, they’re an engaging all-girl British folk-rock five piece from the South East of England who, since 2004, have built a reputation for catchy songs, heartfelt vocals and story-telling lyrics. Influenced by bands as diverse as the Killers, Cherry Ghost, Keane, and Sarah McLachlan and likened to Texas, James Morrison, the Indigo Girls, Mellisa Etheridge, Shawn Colvin, The Script, and Jewel; Greymatter have developed a sound that is very much their own; simultaneously unique and familiar. They have toured the UK, France, Greece, and Germany.
Lucky fans who were quick enough to snap up one of 100 exclusive pre-release copies of the new album at the beginning of August are already buzzing about their favourite tracks on Greymatter’s Facebook page.
Speaking about recording and releasing the album, Georgey said: “I wanted to make sure we had a good balance of songs. This is our strongest album so far. It’s so exciting to finally release it and start to hear all the positive feedback from the fans!”
‘Small Steps in a Big Life’ includes both tracks from Greymatter’s 2010 double-A release ‘The Friend Song’, plus eight new tracks, ranging from feel-good tunes such as ‘You’re Like Water’ to the tear-jerking ballad ‘Before I Sleep’, and a fresh sound with ‘The Game.’ My personal favourites include the heartfelt ‘This Crazy’ and super catchy ‘Les Eilles.’
“That’s why we called it ‘Small Steps in a Big Life’ commented Emma “it’s about all those experiences that add to the richness of your life story.” She continues: “we’ve played a few of the new tracks at recent gigs, but we kept some back so fans can experience them for the first time when they get the new album.”
‘Small Steps in a Big Life’ represents a shift towards a more pop-rock sound for Greymatter, and will appeal to both the long-standing fans and those new to Greymatter’s music. Georgey and Emma’s signature vocal harmonies are as beautiful as ever, Jules guitar is diverse, and Ju’s bass is typically strong. Andi, the drummer and newest member of Greymatter, adds solid, driving rhythms: “this is my first album with the band. I just can’t stop grinning – I’m so happy!”
The artwork is also a new look for the band: “We wanted something lighter for this album” says Georgey “we worked with some amazing design students at the University of Reading’s School of Typography and we think they’ve got it spot on.”
Greymatter recently performed their songs to a packed Trafalgar Square at Pride London, and are now busy putting together their schedule for the coming months to promote the new album, starting with the album launch party at the Brighton Ballrooms on Sunday 9 October. To buy tickets visit the official Greymatter website. Likewise ‘Small Steps in a Big Life’ will be available to buy from the website and from all mainstream digital stores from Saturday 1 October.
Zhoosh highly recommends this amazing third album from Greymatter, the catchy tunes will keep you singing (and smiling) throughout the cold winter months.
