The Zhoosh! Brighton Blog
Greymatter @GoGo Festival
Greymatter, another lovely Brighton based music talent playing at GoGo Festival in less than a weeks time. We were lucky enough to catch up with Greymatter and ask them about their fans, party tricks and their third album which they are currently recording.
ZH: Hello Greymatter!
GM: Hey Zhoosh, how are you?
ZH: Great, thanks. So give us a bit of background on Greymatter. How did the band get together? and how long have you known each other for?
GM: The band got together through a series of timely events and coincidences really. We started as a duo with just Em and Georgey and from there the band has grown and developed into the line up that we have today
ZH: How would you describe your music?
GM: This is always a hard one. We have lots of vocal harmonies, thought provoking lyrics with an acoustic/rocky edge
ZH: GoGo Festival kicks off in less then a week. Are you looking forward to it?
GM: Of course! We loved playing last year and know that this year is set to be bigger and better; we can’t wait!
ZH: There are a lot of big acts at GoGo this year, Uhuh Her, Heather Peace and Betty to name a few. Who are you looking forward to seeing?
GM: All of them! We have a good link with Horse and Heather Peace so always like watching them play, but it will be great to see Uhuh Her. We saw Betty play when we performed at L Beach this year in Germany so it will be great to watch them again at GoGo
ZH: I see you are playing at Pride London again this year, did you have fun playing there last year?
GM: This was an amazing gig, to play in Trafalgar square in front of a London Pride crowd is certainly something that none of us will forget, to be invited to play again is a real bonus
ZH: Are you performing at Brighton Pride this year and if so, will you be in the Women’s Performance Tent?
GM: We will be playing in the Women’s Performance Tent and can’t wait to be part of such an amazing line up. The summer just seems to be full of amazing gigs for us to play at!
ZH: What is the biggest/best audience you have played to?
GM: Biggest has to be London Pride with over 200,000 people in Trafalgar Square, but we also love playing at smaller intimate venues as that’s where we get to know our fans and we can have a bit more banter when we play
ZH: Do you have band nicknames?
Georgey: Disco Biscuit (because she’s dizzy)
Emma: Monkey Feet
Julie: Boycey
Andi: Hollers
Jules: Jules is just Jules… maybe she needs a nickname!!!
ZH: Do any of you have any party tricks? Keep it clean please ladies..
GM: Georgey can make her boobs inflate, its hilarious!
ZH: What can you tell us about your third album and when is it out?
GM: We think this is the best one yet (but then we would), it has a new energy to it with some amazing rocky tracks. We hope that our fans love it as much as we do, we just can’t wait to get it our there now.
ZH: Do you have anything you’d like to say to your lovely fans?
GM: We are so lucky to have the loyal fan base that we do, and it seems to just keep growing. We would like to thank everyone for sticking with us, as long as we have fans who want to listen to what we are doing then we will keep on playing
Thanks Greymatter, it’s been a pleasure!
