Calabash Spectacular @ Brighton Pride 2010 Saturday 7th August, Preston Park, Brighton

The Calabash tent at Brighton Pride, supported by Spectrum LGBT Community Forum, has grown dramatically since its inception back in 2003 and it continues to grow as the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) community in Brighton & Hove goes from strength to strength. Calabash is about cultural diversity within the LGBT community. Raising the profile of the BME groups within the gay community is one of the most important objectives.

As Calabash coordinator Affy Wajid says: “It’s about being inclusive, not exclusive. The Calabash tent promotes the fact that the gay community in Brighton & Hove consists of people from all ethnic backgrounds – not just white Europeans”.

It’s about diversity of music too, as the fantastic 2010 line-up illustrates. Wherever you’re coming from, enjoy great music, a carnival atmosphere, lots of surprises and a great mix of people at Calabash @ Brighton Pride on Preston Park.

Volunteering & sponsorship

Calabash is only possible this year due to the support of Brighton & Hove City Council, Unison, Pride in Brighton & Hove, Spectrum LGBT Community Forum and our committed volunteers. This year’s Calabash will include a stellar line-up of R’n’B, hip hop, old school ragga, drum ’n’ bass, bollywood, funk, soul and disco – a truly spectacular and eclectic mix of DJ acts and live music. If you wish to contribute to the ongoing success of Calabash by volunteering or in any other way, including sponsoring the tent next year, please contact Affy Wajid at affywajid@hotmail.co.uk.
