ArtFor Artists For Brighton Pride

My name is Becky, and I represent Artfor - a recently established society for small scale local artists.
Artfor has a twofold purpose- to offer local artists an inexpensive platform to exhibit their work, and to raise money for local and international causes and charities.
As an artist myself, I was frustrated at the lack of opportunities for part-timers to exhibit. While there are a number of artist’s festivals going on in Brighton and the surrounding area, I found the registration fees prohibitive- and in a city famed for such constant and all pervasive creativity, I was sure I couldn’t be the only one!
When news broke of the Haiti earthquake, I realised I could combine the needs of these peripheral artists with a fundraising motive, and thus Artfor was born. Very quickly we had a group of talented and generous local artists, all willing to donate half of any sales they made in the exhibition to the Red Cross’ DEC appeal, and with the help of Sara-Jane from Kemp Town venue at The Coach House we held a one day exhibition that raised nearly £500.
More artists quickly got on board, and Artfor Pride became our next project. In association with Pride in Brighton & Hove, and sponsored by Silver Bespoke Glass, the Artfor Pride exhibition will be held on Sat 31 July/ Sun 1 Aug- the opening weekend of the Pride Summer Festival- at the Brighton Media Centre Gallery on Middle Street, Brighton. With artists working in a range of media and styles to suit every taste, Artfor Pride promises to be a stimulating and inspiring exhibition. And of course, 50% of all sales will be donated to Pride, to help them continue the fantastic work they do promoting equality and diversity in Brighton and Hove and across the country.
