homophobia -v- football, Africa, The Pope’s visit, love & the green party

Lots happening in the world of queer.  Yes, I think the q word is ok.  I quite like catch-all words.  The John Terry, Captaincy of England shennanigans is nothing short of the media having nothing more important to explore.  I doubt he’s homophobic but on that note, I’ll be going along to events in Brighton on 19 Feb when homophobia -v- football will be addressed under the banner of The Justin Campaign.  Very importantly, issues affecting us lot are not only in the ether, but also in the reality of our existence.  As I write, I have a concern, not only for gay men and women in Africa but also for straight men and women in Africa (and Uganda in particular), who might be hanged by the neck for simply contracting HIV and/or AIDS.  Tell your MP that’s it’s not good enough.  No, tell your MP that our foreign policy must take in to account just how BAD the situation is.  Particularly when the Catholic Church condemns the use of condoms, devastating Africa.  I won’t be waving flags when The Pope visits later this year,  might wave a condom.  (It will be in my hand, not on its intended body part!)  Thing is, we taxpayers will fund this as a State Visit.  I think an ex-member of the Nazi Youth can fund his own trip, particularly as he is the head of one of the wealthiest organisations on the planet.  Bringing us back home, I’m looking forward to celebrating my cousin Val’s birthday with her lesbian friends.  She doesn’t define herself with her sexuality. And I don’t either.  Val and I found each other by chance and what a great chance.  I can’t help thinking that she and I have a genetic propensity to love (small L) each other.  I hope so.  You see, I’m convinced that gay bloke, lesbian older relative, a Catholic, an African all have the right to love carefully and safely.  I’ll go to the the Green Party Spring Conference in London next week and report back here, about our potential new (and UK’s first) Green MP’s updates on their (strong) equality position.   Be safe, be busy, laugh today at something you haven’t laughed about before.
